Published

on

The nominees for Reaper Awards 2009, the first awards campaign dedicated entirely to horror on home video, have been chosen by an esteemed panel of judges from within the horror community. Beyond the break you can read more about the event, see how to vote and of course, dig on the nominees.
This year’s nominees range from some of the most popular horror films ever made to new critically acclaimed indies,” says Kyra Kudick, executive producer of the Reaper Awards. “It is a diverse selection and it is exciting to leave the choice of winners to those who would know best — the fans.

Horror fans will now have the opportunity to choose the best horror DVDs and Blu-ray Discs of the year in an online vote held Sept. 1 through Oct. 1 at www.ReaperAwards.com.

Winners of the “Grimmys” will receive handcrafted Grim Reaper statuettes designed and sculpted by Joe Sena, president of SphereWerx LLC, parent company of the FearWerx horror and EMCE Toy brands. The statuettes were cast by Paul Clarke of EMCE Toys and handpainted and assembled by Sena.

The Grimmys will be celebrated Oct. 13 at the hauntingly historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The event will include a red carpet for VIP guests, pre-show cocktail party and dinner, followed by an awards show featuring celebrity presenters.

Registration is now open at ReaperAwards.com/event.

Although horror fans everywhere are encouraged to vote on the best DVDs and Blu-ray Discs of the year, the awards show is currently only open to those fans who work in the industry. Sequel Mortal Kombat II is now available to watch at home on Digital before heading to physical media in July, but you can test your might now and watch the opening scene.

Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid returns to the helm for the new sequel from a script by Jeremy Slater (“Moon Knight,” Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire).

In Mortal Kombat II, the fan-favorite champions — now joined by Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) — are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.

Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada are also part of the ensemble cast of Mortal Kombat II fighters.

Watch the opening below, which introduces a young Kitana (Sophia Xu) as Emperor Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford) prepares to conquer her father, King Jerrod (Desmond Chiam), and her kingdom of Edenia. It sets the sequel’s entire plot in motion.

From New Line Cinema, James Wan’s Atomic Monster, Broken Road Productions, and Fireside Films, Mortal Kombat II is rated R for “strong bloody violence and gore, and language.”

Look for Mortal Kombat II to arrive on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on July 28, 2026.

The physical media release contains the following special features, as unveiled by IGN:
