Dreamworks Gets ‘Darkfever’

Published

on

I wasn’t even aware that the Darkfever project existed (in book OR film form) until a few minutes ago. But, as the facts would have it, it does! It could very well be the greatest thing ever written! It also has vampires, which is a pretty rare thing these days!

As Harry Potter and Twilight have shown (despite the protestations of Narnia and The Golden Compass) really expensive movies based on a financially successful series of books for young adults is a lucrative business. A business that Dreamworks wants its own shot at now that the more established franchises are winding down and the landscape is less cluttered.

Author Karen Marie Moning has written five of these things and they more or less sound like what’s come before. According to Variety, “[The] Series follows MacKayla Lane, an ordinary young woman from Georgia who travels to Ireland to track down her sister’s killer. While overseas, she discovers an extraordinary world filled with ancient secrets, vampires and other tough-to-kill creatures.”

I wouldn’t start holding my breath just yet for a release date. The project was only just recently acquired from Fox/New Regency and no execs have been assigned (which also means no writer has been hired). Which means if you watch this on an iPad, it’ll be the iPad 7.
