Hammer Opens Script Archive In The UK

Published

on

Enjoying a resurgence with The Woman In Black, venerable British horror studio Hammer has chosen the Cinema And Television History (CATH) Research Centre at the UK’s Leicester De Montfort University to house its script archive.

Deadline reports that the CATH center will catalogue and curate a collection that includes screenplays from most of the studio’s film and TV productions from 1947-1990 along with extensive corporate paperwork, correspondence and other ephemera. This is the first time the archive will be opened to public research and study.

Last month, Hammer announced a global restoration project for its library of films in partnership with Studiocanal, Pinewood and other international players and with the participation of 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros and Paramount.

The studio was founded in 1934 and has produced such films as Frankenstein Created Woman, The Plague Of The Zombies, The Witches and The Mummy. Hammer stopped production in the ’80s and returned to features in 2010 with Matt Reeves’ adaptation of Swedish hit Let Me In. Its most recent film, Daniel Radcliffe-starrer The Woman In Black, has taken in over $60 million worldwide. Since 2008, Hammer has been a division of the Exclusive Media Group.

Warner Bros. has already dated prequel film The Conjuring: First Communion for a September 10, 2027 release, and now the upcoming movie’s two stars have been found.

Deadline reports that Garrett Wareing (Ransom Canyon) and Amanda Fix (Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma) will play the young versions of Ed and Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring: First Communion. The scoop was first reported by Dread Central.

Plot details remain under wraps at this time, but the upcoming prequel movie comes from director Rodrigue Huart, from a script by Richard Naing & Ian Goldberg.

It’s not certain if Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will be appearing at all, though it seems the film will at least primarily focus on the young versions of their characters.

There are currently nine films in The Conjuring universe — The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes HomeThe Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do ItThe Nun 2, and last year’s The Conjuring: Last Rites. Matt Donato recently ranked every single movie in the hit saga, and you can read that ranking article right here.

Conjuring Universe television series is allegedly also in the works.

Franchise producer Peter Safran previously said of The Conjuring Universe, “There’s so much more to it that we haven’t dug into. So the truth is, I think there are really exciting ways to go with both film and television, frankly. It would be incredibly satisfying. People have been on this journey with us for a dozen years now. I think they want more.”
