What’s Coming? Avengers Vs. X-Men!
So what’s all the hoopla about this ‘It’s Coming’ teaser nonsense from Marvel? Yep, you guessed it Avengers Vs. X-Men. The publisher revealed their “secret” plans yesterday afternoon on their website as well as in USA Today that their next big event will not be run by one single man, but by a team of their best writers. Avengers Vs. X-Men will be co-written by Marvel’s five “Architect” writers: Jason Aaron, Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction and Jonathan Hickman with illustrations by John Romita Jr., Olivier Coipel and Adam Kubert. Sounds like a winner to me! Read on for some more deets.
So you’re probably wondering why the two major mutant teams at Marvel will be stacking up against one another. As the teaser poster suggests, the ever-powerful Phoenix force will be coming back, seeking out Hope Summers as a new host. The Avengers want to destroy her, while the X-Men want only to protect their young. As Axel Alonso (Marvel editor-in-chief) tells USA Today, “You’re seeing a story that evolves out of ‘What would you do?'”
USA Today also reports that “Bendis takes on the Scarlet Witch, and for good reason: He was the Avengers writer when the mutant heroine, after being driven insane and thinking that her fellow Avengers took her children, lost control of her magical powers.” Jason Aaron on the other hand, will be handling Hope Summers as Phoenix.
This project bands together two of the biggest and baddest teams out there. I know I’m not supposed to put my personal opinion into news, but I can’t hold back my excitement for this. It’s been a long while since the X-Team was part of a major event, and now they’re back in full force.Avengers vs. X-Men will be a 12-part, biweekly miniseries starting in April.
Don’t forget to tune into the Livestream TODAY (Dec 7) at 3:00.

‘Exhuma’ Prequel Spinoff Webtoon ‘Maengjong’ Debuts This Weekend
The supernatural world of Korean folk horror movie Exhuma grows larger with the arrival of prequel spinoff webtoon Maengjong this weekend, Variety reports today.
Naver Webtoon debuts Maengjong on May 30.
The series hails from Haemuri (Olgami) and will trace the high school origins of how shaman duo Hwarim and Bonggil, played by Kim Go-eun and Lee Do-hyun in the 2024 film, came together to face occultish threats.
The story is set to begin when “Hwarim, who has been concealing her identity following a childhood encounter with a snake spirit called Jin, crosses paths with Bonggil at their school.”
Variety notes that Exhuma director Jang Jae-hyun participated in the project’s early concept stage.
“We are presenting ‘Maengjong,’ a new series capturing the appeal of the horror-occult genre, ahead of the full summer season,” said Lee Jeong-geun, Naver Webtoon’s Korea webtoon content leader. “With the high school story of Hwarim and Bonggil, who left a strong impression in the film ‘Exhuma,’ enhanced by Haemuri’s characteristic tense direction, we expect it will be a welcome work for genre fans.”
“It is meaningful that the spin-off story of ‘Exhuma,’ loved by many audiences, expands by meeting the new grammar of webtoon,” said Lee Hyeon-jeong, managing director of the film business division at Showbox, which distributed the film. “We hope it will be a fresh experience for both film fans and webtoon readers.”
Exhuma was a breakout hit in 2024, becoming the first Korean occult film to surpass 10 million ticket buyers and the country’s highest-grossing film of the year. I wrote in my review that “the intricately woven Exhuma delivers one of the year’s biggest surprises in horror so far.”
The bond between Hwarim and Bonggil was one of the film’s highlights, making this prequel webtoon a must for fans.
