[Interview] Oren Peli On Extreme Tourism, Hiring Brad Parker And Writing The ‘Chernobyl Diaries’
Chernobyl Diaries, the Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity) and Brian Witten-produced horror survival film, opens in theaters May 25 from Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures. I recently sat down with Peli (who was also a writer on the film) to discuss how he came up with the idea, what some of the challenges of filming were and to get a few nugets of information on Paranormal Activity 4. At least I tried to get a few nuggets of PA4 info. Peli’s become quite the expert on not giving anything away lately. So I had to settle for strict Chernobyl info – which isn’t so bad!
Directed by Brad Parker, and starring Jonathan Sadowski, Devin Kelley, Jesse McCartney, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Nathan Phillips, Ingrid Bolso Berdal and Dimitri Diatchenko, in the film, “A group of friends become stranded in an eerie and desolate city. Years before in the aftermath of a nuclear disaster, nature has begun to reclaim everything. As the sun sets on this radioactive ghost town, inhuman cries cut through the night air. It seems they are not alone.”

Jennifer E. Montgomery makes her feature directorial debut from a script she co-wrote with director of photography Andrew Davis, inspired by Montgomery’s first-hand experience with tragedy involving her best friend.
“Months before the incident, there were signals that her world was unraveling,” says Montgomery. “I could feel the pressure building, though I didn’t know what form it would take. I never could have known what violence would come, and I certainly never imagined making a film about it.”
Austin Stowell (“NCIS: Origins”), Suraj Sharma (Happy Death Day 2U), Mojean Aria (Reminiscence), Amol Shah (“For All Mankind”), and Zenobia Shroff (“Ms. Marvel”) round out the cast.
