‘Cradlewood’ an American-style ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’

Ian Somerhalder, star of the CW’s “The Vampire Diaries,” has signed to topline an extremely cheesy sounding romantic gothic fairy tale Cradlewood. Harry Weinmann will direct the movie that centers on an Australian woman living in Boston with the heir (Somerhalder) to an incredible fortune whose family history is swirled in a legend that tells of a pact made with a demon which ensures that whenever a boy is born into the family, the father is killed. The heir suspects his girlfriend is pregnant, and after strange events occur, he comes to believe he will die if he continues to fall in love. Emma Lung will play the Australian woman. Cradlewood is based on original story by Weinmann. Stephen Sewell and John Paul Chapple (Bathroy) wrote the script. “We see this is as almost like an American-style ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ in look and feel,” Shane said. “It’s a perfect segue for the kids who have outgrown ‘Twilight’ but want something romantic and scary. Our monster will be quite terrifying; she is sexually attractive and monstrous at the same time.

No CGI Needed: Survival Thriller ‘Savage Hunt’ Uses a Real Grizzly Bear [Image]

The “animals attack” subgenre is getting a new installment with the upcoming Savage Hunt, a survival thriller from director Roel Reiné (Halo) that Deadline has previewed today.

The site’s report – which brings us a first-look image, seen above – notes: “The production has told us they are currently using a real grizzly bear on location as part of the shoot.”

Here’s the synopsis for the upcoming Savage Hunt: “The story follows a vengeful tracker who is brought in to hunt down a large grizzly bear, which has begun attacking humans when a new local resort begins construction, disrupting the natural habitat of the wildlife.”

“We wanted to strive for as much realism as possible, showing how powerful nature can be, and the effects of man encroaching on an animal’s natural environment,” the producers said.

“Filming with a real bear in real locations with real actors is a very complex task. The production involves a lot of stunts as well and that adds to the complexity,” producer Gabriel Georgiev added. “Roel Reine is the key element for this project. His immense talent and unique cinematic taste, along with his extensive experience make this production one of a kind. We have some amazing scenes in the can already, I can’t wait to see the finished movie.”

Film Bridge International will introduce the project to buyers at the Cannes market.
