Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Black Swan’ Compared to ‘Rosemary’s Baby’

Published

on

Every single time we write about Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan I get a little nervous. I’m terrified that the thriller will play more like a drama and we’ll end up with an egg in our face. Thanks to a new interview with star Natalie Portman over at MTV, I have a reason to relax. “It’s very unique in tone,” Portman told MTV News, adding “I think of it more as a psychological thriller, like Rosemary’s Baby in [terms of] genre, if I had to pick a genre.” Opening Venice and then traveling to the Toronto Film Festival in September, Swan centers on a veteran ballerina (Portman) who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it’s unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions. You’ll all be able to see it come December 1 when it opens Nationally.Black Swan Natalie Portman
