Depeche Mode – “Darkest Star”
One of the more haunting tracks from Depeche Mode, this track features some truly unsettling vocal harmonies. Lyrically, I believe it tackles different types of people who all share one thing in common: a darkness, a deep morbidity that runs throughout and ultimately defines them.
Bonus: This song was used in the Alan Wake DLC “The Writer”.
Portishead – “Biscuit”
Talk about a song that always creeped me out. Something about “Biscuit” just gets under my skin and raises goose bumps all over my arms. Maybe it’s the slowed down, “I’ll never fall in love again. It’s all over now…“, maybe it’s vocalist Beth Gibbons and her haunting vibrato, or maybe it’s the horror-esque music. Whatever it is, this song always makes me feel uneasy. And I love it for that.
