The original Nightmare Creatures holds a very special place in my heart, and, surprisingly, its gameplay holds up well today. The story is deliciously cheesy, but it’s also rich and dark enough to be interesting. The series’ repertoire of monsters is top notch and practically begging for a next-gen makeover. Also, there aren’t enough games (or any, really) that let you kick demon ass as a staff-wielding monk. That’s an itch only this game can scratch.

Multiple glaring flaws aside, I enjoyed The Thing quite a bit. It was creepy, looked great (for the time), and had that eerie, unnerving atmosphere that made Carpenter’s remake so damn enjoyable. There’s a sense of unease that follows you everywhere you go, thanks to the isolation and the thought that any of your friends might not be what they seem. The recent prequel proves the brand is still very much alive, and with its creepy atmosphere and squad-based gameplay — unique for a horror game — a next-gen The Thing could be a hit.

I’m a little surprised Capcom, the crowned king of publishers who are willing to milk every goddamn drop out of their established franchises, hasn’t wrung a little more cash out of Dino Crisis. Dinosaurs, horror, dinosaurs– need I say more? The original game will see its fifteenth anniversary this August (that makes me feel old), what better time to remind us why this series, or at least the first two games, were so popular in the first place?
I’ve shown you mine, now it’s your turn to show me yours. Let me know what horror games you’d like to see remade in the comments below!
