Check This Band Out: Satan
Mr. Disgusting has recently turned me on to NWOBHM/thrash metal band Satan, who may not be the most well known act but are certainly considered one of the more influential acts for the genre. Basically, if you’re a fan of old school Metallica (as in Kill ‘Em All and Ride The Lightning) with elements of King Diamond, this is right up your alley!
Originally formed in 1979 in Newcastle, England, the band has gone through some serious name and label changes, which probably made it quite difficult to keep up with them and their releases. Hell, they started as Satan for their first album, went by the name of Blind Fury for their second album Out Of Reach, went back to Satan for Suspended Sentence, and then became Pariah for their next three albums. Then, last year, they released a new album under their original moniker. WHEW! I’m out of breath.
Below you can listen “Trial By Fire”, a track from their 1983 debut album Court In The Act, and then compare it to “Time To Die”, a track from their 2013 album Life Sentence, which was their first new album in 15 years.
Seminal slasher Scream rewrote the rules in 1996, and for its 30th anniversary, Varèse Sarabande and Craft Recordings are celebrating with a new anniversary reissue of Marco Beltrami’s landmark score.
The original 14-track album returns to vinyl in a collectible “blood-soaked” sleeve on August 28.
If blood red isn’t your color, there’s good news: the reissue will also be available in many different limited-edition exclusive pressings.

Marco Beltrami composed the iconic score as a then young, up-and-coming composer—one who, ironically, had never scored or even seen a horror film.
Yet just three years after he completed the University of Southern California’s rigorous scoring program, Beltrami submitted 13 minutes of music for Scream’s opening sequence and his future was forever changed. “We knew in half a minute that we had found our composer,” Craven told Variety in 2012. “The music was haunting, beautiful and totally original. Marco turned out to be shy and soft-spoken, but a fountain of ideas and innovation. I never looked back.”
