Finally, a Multiplayer Horror Game That Pits Humans Against Sharks

Published

Now that this is becoming an actual, playable game, I can’t help but wonder why it hasn’t been done sooner. You see, I have a belief that we all have a bit of Jaws that resides within us, waiting to be set free. And soon, we’ll be able to let that beast out, thanks to an indie developer that’s currently working on a competitive multiplayer game in which a team of humans battle a pack of great white sharks. It’s called Depth, and it sounds magical.

The concept is simple. You can either play as a diver equipped with a harpoon or a Great White Shark. The former relies on teamwork with your fellow players to survive, while the latter is more than capable of using its superior strength, speed, and dual rows of razor-sharp teeth to eviscerate any unsuspecting soul who’s not paying close enough attention to their surroundings.

One of the more intriguing things about this game is that your enemy can come from anywhere. It’s all underwater, so having total awareness of your environment and your blind spots, even above and below your character, is crucial.

Depth has my attention, and I’m sure it does yours. It’s had a bit of a troubled development — the game was put on hold back in 2012, only to resurface pretty recently — but now it sounds like the project is again moving forward with the possibility of its coming to Steam Early Access. Below you’ll find a trailer and some screenshots. They’re dated, but they should give you a decent idea of what they’re looking to accomplish with this nifty concept.

‘A Man in the Woods With an Axe’ – First Look at ’80s Throwback Slasher [Exclusive]

We have an exclusive first look at A Man in the Woods With an Axe, a blood-soaked, genre-twisting homage to 1980s slasher films.

Spanning four decades, A Man in the Woods With an Axe begins in the summer of 1987 before pushing into the modern era, weaving together timelines and perspectives in a way that builds both dread and intrigue.

Drawing inspiration from genre standouts like Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Hatchet, and The Cabin in the Woods, the film blends visceral horror with moments of dark humor, creating a uniquely balanced experience that honors tradition while carving its own identity.

Writer-director Dillon Brown (Primal Darkness) aims to deliver everything fans crave from a slasher while boldly subverting expectations with a mid-film twist that redefines the story.

“This is an unapologetic love letter to the films that made me fall in love with horror,” Brown tells Bloody Disgusting. “But I didn’t just want to recreate that feeling; I wanted to challenge it. About halfway through, the film takes a turn that completely changes how you view not only this story, but the genre itself.”

Brown describes the vintage-inspired production as “far and away the bloodiest film I’ve ever made,” with practical effects helmed by Cody Ruch (The Mill, Pig Hill), an instructor at Tom Savini’s Special Make-Up Effects Program.

From Horror Dadz Productions, A Man in the Woods With an Axe is currently in production and targeting an early 2027 release.
