The PlayStation 4 is Doing Really, Really Well

Published

on

The Xbox is floundering, but the good news just keeps coming for Sony. During their Gamescom press conference, they announced a rather impressive milestone for the PlayStation 4, which has found its way to 10 million gamers. That’s not sold to retail, that’s sold through to the customer. In just nine months.

The good news doesn’t end there. The NPD results are in for the month of July, and The Last of Us handily claimed the top spot. The Last of Us Remastered looks to be performing admirably in the States — and across the pond — despite its being an update for a game that released just over a year ago.

Not to take anything from Sony or Naughty Dog, but it is worth mentioning that there wasn’t much in terms of competition. July was a slow month.

Below you’ll find the top-selling games for July.

1. The Last of Us (PS4, PS3)
2. Minecraft (360, PS3)
3. FIFA 14 (360, PS4, XBO, PS3, PSV)
4. Watch Dogs (PS4, 360, PS3, XBO, PC)
5. Mario Kart 8 (NWU)
6. Call of Duty: Ghosts (XBO, 360, PS4, PS3, NWU, PC)
7. Grand Theft Auto V (360, PS3)
8. Sniper Elite III (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
9. NBA 2K14 (360, PS3, PS4, XBO, PC)
10. Lego Marvel Super Heroes (360, PS3, 3DS, NDS, PS4, NWU, XBO, PSV, PC)

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
