‘Dead Space’ is Still a Very Important Franchise for EA

After working on the series almost nonstop for seven years, developer Visceral Games is taking a break from the action horror franchise to work on Battlefield Hardline. Part of the reason behind this change is simply to give the developer a much-needed break, but most of it stems from the relatively unsuccessful Dead Space 3, which landed with a dull thud when it released last February.

Speaking with Kotaku UK, Visceral Games general manager Steve Papoutsis confirmed that while they’re taking a break from it now, Dead Space is still a very important franchise for them, and that he’s even excited to see what a new game on current-gen consoles would look like. That’s about a much hope for the series as we’re likely to get, and it mirrors what EA Studios executive vice president Patrick Söderlund said back in June, and what EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau confirmed last August.

Dead Space is coming back, but it will likely be awhile before we hear from it again. Or rather, hear something new — I’m sure the future has a bevy of “Dead Space isn’t dead” confirmations left for us until EA finally gets around to bringing it back.

When it comes to horror franchises that are MIA — Dead Space, Alan Wake, Condemned, FEAR, Left 4 Dead, etc. — is there one in particular you’d like to hear from the most?
