Collider reports, days after it was rumored that Jared Leto seems to be circling “Suicide Squad” that the film has cast it’s Harley Quinn. Margot Robbie is an interesting choice because she doesn’t come with a certain expectation for insanity. As this is the first time we’re seeing a live action Harley, anything can happen. Although assume this will be the one character less grounded in reality, and more grounded in insanity.
For those of you that don’t know. Harley Quinn first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series created by Paul Dini to serve as a girlfriend to the Joker. Dr. Harlequin Quinzel was a psychiatrist saddled with the monumental task of diagnosing the joker, she then became obsessed and was courted by the clown prince of crime into being his loyal servant. As of late she’s had a resurgence of popularity in her own right as an antihero. Let’s see what David Ayer’s “dirty dozen with superheroes” does for her.
Let’s talk about that Jared Leto rumor for a moment. Apparently jaded after not being the first choice to play Dr. Strange, Leto has jumped camp to Warner Brothers to ink his first deal since winning an Academy Award to follow up a performance on the most powerful comic book movie character depiction of the last 20 years. How and why would he do such a thing? Is he capable of making it his own? I like to think so, but I’m of the camp that why bother? Leave the Joker well enough alone for a few more years. I don’t want to see him “Suicide Squad” I want him going toe to toe with Batfleck.
