[TV] “Scream” Series Opens With Famous Drew Barrymore Scene?!

Published

on

One of the most infamous scenes in horror movie history came in 1996 when Drew Barrymore’s character was killed off in the opening moments of Wes Craven’s Scream. It was a shock in the fact that the audience thought Barrymore was the star of the slasher.

Now, almost 20 years later, MTV is preparing to launch “Scream” as a television series, with a new mask and a YouTube-centric plot.

Bloody reader ‘Curtis L.’ sent us a shocking rumor that we were able to confirm.

Not only has Bella Thorne, pictured below, secretly been cast in “Scream,” but she’ll be re-enacting the famous Drew Barrymore scene from the original series.

She confirmed this during a Facebook chat on Yahoo! Celebrity, “yes it is true. i will re-enact the famous scene of drew barrymore in the original series.” Her comment came via a verified account.

Now, does this mean that the “new” Ghostface killer is literally re-enacting the opening scene in Scream? This would be a truly epic meta moment that Scream fans would gush over. Or, are they literally remaking the franchise, riffing off the infamous opening sequence? We’ll find out in 2015 when the series airs on MTV.

The MTV series also stars Willa Fitzgerald, Taylor-Klaus, Bobby Campo (The Final Destination), Connor Weil (Sharknado) and Joel Gretsch (Witches of East End, V, The 4400). You can read about their characters here.

It’s said to center on a YouTube viral video gone wrong, which leads to adverse repercussions for teenager Audrey Jesen and will also serve as the “catalyst for a murder and opens up a window to the town’s troubled past.”

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
