“The X-Files” stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, have been openly expressing interest in a third movie for years now. And while we always felt 20th Century Fox would one day get behind it, we never in our wildest dreams thought that the series could be reincarnated.
This past weekend it was confirmed by Fox TV Group chairman Gary Newman, who says that they’re in talks to bring back Chris Carter’s supernatural drama. Yes, as a brand new televisions series.
Now, Duchovny, who played Fox Mulder in the series that ran from 1993-2002, as well as the two movies, is once again championing a reunion of sorts – even if it were to be a limited series.
Duchovny tells USA Today he’s “more than happy and excited to bring it back and do it again with (co-star) Gillian (Anderson) and (series creator) Chris (Carter).”
On Tuesday, Duchovny, 54, said, “I’m assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now. We’ll see what form, how many (episodes). Certainly I can’t nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form. We’re all old, we don’t have the energy for a full season,” he said with a laugh.
Whatever the case, we want to believe in it because “The X-Files” doesn’t deserve the death it was dealt with the awful 2008 sequel.
