Why is there no Dredd sequel?
Producer Adi Shankar is sick of being misquoted, and wants Dredd fans to understand how difficult it is to get a movie financed.
As he explains, there’s a complicated answer. It was so complicated that he decided to uploaded a 6-minute long video to break it down. It’s a must-see for aspiring filmmakers, who can learn the simple (ha!) formula to get a movie financed. The hard part is finding the “D-I-S” (watch the video).
For those too damn lazy to learn something today, in short, to get Dredd 2 made, they need to lower budget, get a big filmmaker and bigger star.
This video is so shockingly truthful that it’s sort of a gut-punch for us film fanatics. What we learn is that filmmaking is a business and only a business, and that creative means nothing as long as a project has a hot cast and director. It’s brutal. Long live the indie film.
