There’s No Progress On ‘Akira’ Feature
After Chronicle there really feels like there’s no reason to make a feature film version of Akira, although I would love to see a real version of Kaneda and Tetsuo realized.
Bloody Disgusting broke the news on a Akira features years and years ago, and yet it still hasn’t come into fruition. In fact, it’s deader than ever.
Orphan and House of Wax‘s Jaume Collet-Serra was to direct, and tells Collider the project is dead in the water.
“No, no. There’s nothing,” he tells the site when asked about progress. After a lengthy explanation of his need for a vacation, he says it’s up to the studio to progress Akira. “It’s a Warner Bros. question.”
The last update came in July 2014 when it was announced that Dante Harper, the first writer on Edge of Tomorrow, who also penned the latest draft of The Last Witch Hunter, was currently working with Warner Bros, Appian Way, Mad Chance and director Jaume Collet-Serra on Akira. Clearly, this didn’t go as planned.
The new Akira is set in New Manhattan where the leader of a biker gang must save his friend, discovered with potentially destructive psychokinetic abilities, from government medical experiments.
There’s always this amazing fan film.

‘Werwulf’ – Chilly First Look at New Werewolf Nightmare from Director Robert Eggers
Robert Eggers (The Witch, Nosferatu) is back later this year with new horror movie Werwulf, and the very first teaser image from the hotly anticipated movie has surfaced tonight.
Oddly enough, this first look comes courtesy of the NBC Store, and it gives us a glimpse at a chilly Winter landscape from the film. Is there a werewolf hiding in the photo? Maybe…
Set in 13th century England, Werwulf sees a mysterious creature stalk the land as local folklore becomes a terrifying reality. The film hits theaters on December 25 via Focus Features.
Robert Eggers recently teased, “It’s the darkest thing I’ve ever written. By far.”
Eggers directs from a script he penned with his The Northman co-writer Sjón.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nosferatu), Lily-Rose Depp (Nosferatu), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Ralph Ineson (The Witch), and Bodhi Rae Breathnach (Hamnet) star.
Robert Eggers and Sjón produce alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for Working Title. Maiden Voyage’s Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus are executive producing.
