Bummer news for fans of anthologies who wanted to see “Tales From the Darkside” revitalized as a television series.
Even after Joe Hill raved about the pilot presentation, the CW has officially passed on the “Tales From the Darkside” series.
Said Deadline, the anthology had been getting traction with a well executed pilot but its anthology format was a source of uncertainty about how a full season would look, and the project was in need of a showrunner…
Hill (“Horns,” “Locke & Key”) wrote the pilot script, which will feature only one regular character, Newman (Kris Lemche), a weathered and tortured young man who is the guide to the unsuspecting who come across “The Darkside”. Deadline had revealed that Newman – a man with his own desperate, wrenching secrets – knows exactly what’s causing the terrifying “Darkside Events” that drive the series. What he doesn’t know is how to stop them.
“Tales From the Darkside” was a reboot of fantasy-thriller anthology series created by George A. Romero. The pilot for the series aired back in 1983, with it running from ’84-’88.
