‘Paranormal Activity’ VR Game Coming in 2016

Published

on

I can’t decide what sounds better, augmented reality ghosts or virtual reality ghosts, like the ones we’ll soon be seeing in the just-announced Paranormal Activity VR. Not content to be just another adaptation of a popular film franchise, this game will make full use of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset and Sony’s Project Morpheus.

“Our goal is for the Paranormal Activity VR video game to not only be the scariest game you’ve ever played, but the scariest experience you’ve ever had,” claims the press release Paramount employed to quietly announce it.

Teaming up with a franchise like Paranormal Activity, which has established itself as a brand with significant worldwide appeal — albeit waning appeal — is the sort of thing that could help virtual reality see the mainstream success that many hope it will get when the headsets finally start shipping. And if it doesn’t, VR will always have a home in horror.

Paranormal Activity VR releases next year for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Other platforms, including mobile, were mentioned but nothing specific has been confirmed just yet.

Robert Eggers (The Witch, Nosferatu) is back later this year with new horror movie Werwulf, and the very first teaser image from the hotly anticipated movie has surfaced tonight.

Oddly enough, this first look comes courtesy of the NBC Store, and it gives us a glimpse at a chilly Winter landscape from the film. Is there a werewolf hiding in the photo? Maybe…

Set in 13th century England, Werwulf sees a mysterious creature stalk the land as local folklore becomes a terrifying reality. The film hits theaters on December 25 via Focus Features.

Robert Eggers recently teased, “It’s the darkest thing I’ve ever written. By far.”

Eggers directs from a script he penned with his The Northman co-writer Sjón.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nosferatu), Lily-Rose Depp (Nosferatu), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Ralph Ineson (The Witch), and Bodhi Rae Breathnach (Hamnet) star.

Robert Eggers and Sjón produce alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for Working Title. Maiden Voyage’s Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus are executive producing.
