EA finally pulled whatever the sci-fi equivalent of a sheet is off Mass Effect: Andromeda this week. It appears to be less about getting lost in space and more about finding the perfect alien planet to ruin with lasers and explosions. Why that guy in the trailer didn’t choose that last planet — the one with all the lava — is beyond me.

I would’ve chosen the planet that comes with its own weapons. Shooting a bad guy will never be as satisfying as This is Sparta-ing them into a tornado made of hellfire, and it’s wasteful to boot. Going to war on that hellish space rock is basically the same as recycling.

I have an idea. How about you watch this trailer and tell me if you agree.

“While we aren’t ready to go into too many details just yet, as you saw in the trailer and can tell by the name, this game is very much a new adventure, taking place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy. You will play a human, male or female, though that’s actually not the character you saw in the trailer (more on that later). You’ll be exploring an all-new galaxy, Andromeda, and piloting the new and improved Mako you saw. And through it all, you will have a new team of adventurers to work with, learn from, fight alongside of, and fall in love with.”

Mass Effect: Andromeda won’t look as good as what we see in that video, it’s more representative of what BioWare wants the game to look like when it releases in late 2016.
