‘The Crow’ May Fly To A New Distributor

Published

on

According to Variety, Relativity Studios might be selling off domestic distribution rights for both the remake of The Crow and the action/thriller Hunter Killer to STX Entertainment for $150 million. The reason for this possible negotiation is due to the fact that Relativity Studios is in the hole about $350 million to its investors and needs to come up with the money to repay lenders.

If the deal goes through Relativity would still have foreign distribution rights. President Tucker Tooley comments:

We frequently have other studios approach us about partnering on some of our films which we have done several times in the past. STX has recently approached us. Relativity Studios has no interest in selling ‘The Crow’ or ‘Hunter Killer’ outright and no deal has been reached.

Both films are currently in pre-production, although The Crow recently lost its lead Jack Huston, who dropped out citing scheduling difficulties.

‘Freddy the 13th’ – Dan Trachtenberg Directing Animated Horror-Comedy Slasher for Paramount

Published

on

Dan Trachtenberg (Prey, Predator: Killer of Killers, Predator: Badlands) is headed back into the world of animation for horror-comedy Freddy the 13th for Paramount Animation.

The animated feature will adapt the graphic novel from Yehudi Mercado.

Freddy the 13th essentially imagines a world where Uncle Buck becomes Jason Voorhees.

Deadline details the upcoming animated film as follows: “A family vacation turns into a nightmare when fun Uncle Freddy accidentally kills the Boogeyman and takes on his powers.”

The official synopsis for the comic book from creator Yehudi Mercado further details, “Uncle Buck becomes the Boogey Man. When a horror-obsessed, unlucky schlub accidentally kills the legendary slasher Nighty Night, he inherits the mantle of the monster—right as he’s stuck babysitting his niece and nephew for thirteen nights of terror. Now, as rival killers crawl out of the shadows to seize the throne, Freddy must drive cross-country to break the curse, protect his family… and prove he’s finally good at something, even if it’s being evil.”

Deadline notes that Dan Trachtenberg’s movie adaptation is untitled at this time. But the family-friendly horror-comedy aims to deliver “scares and laughs to the whole family.”

Dan Trachtenberg writes on Instagram, “I’ve spent most of my career making movies that parents probably shouldn’t show their kids. I’m finally making one…they…can…?”

Stay tuned for more on Dan Trachtenberg’s Freddy the 13th as we learn it.
