With his breakout role as Dr. Dre in Legendary’s Straight Outta Compton already receiving early praise, Corey Hawkins, pictured, is reteaming with Legendary on its King Kong prequel, Kong: Skull Island, Variety reports.

Hawkins is in negotiations to join Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson in the action tentpole with Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing the pic. Brie Larson is also in talks to play the female lead in the film with the studios courting Russell Crowe to fill one of the vacant roles.

While plot details are still vague, the story will be set in the mysterious, dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the island. The reintroduction to King Kong is set for discovery on March 10, 2017.

Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce with Mary Parent. Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod will executive produce. The script was penned by by Max Borenstein, John Gatins and Dan Gilroy.
