We’ve teamed up with Phoenix, AZ band The Oxford Coma to exclusively premiere their video for “Canadian Questionmark”, which comes from their new album Paris Is Mine (out digitally last week).
The video is a psychedelic mind fuck, featuring swirling and shifting visuals as well as utilizing claymation that reminds me of Tool’s “Sober”. It’s definitely a weird video that can easily become hypnotic if you allow it to take you over.
Guitarist/vocalist Billy explains:
The video started off as an exclusively stop motion thing, but I realized that was going to take easy too long to make, so I decided to shoot a super slow mo performance video and totally rip off and/or pay tribute to KEN Mode’s Romeo Must Never Know video. None of our videos have ever had more than a skeletal plan before we shot them. They usually just find their stride once I start editing. So far I’ve had to learn at least one new piece of technology per video to get them done. This time it was stop motion and incorporating still shots into a video. You’d never know they were stills now. Anyway, I had both stop motion footage and performance footage, so I used a bit of both. All three of us shot parts of the performance footage because we didn’t bother to hire an extra set of hands. All the stop motion was shot in my kitchen. I think we did pretty freakin’ good.
