Del Toro “Would Love the F*ck Out of” Godzilla In ‘Pacific Rim’

While Gareth Edwards 2014 take on Godzilla left plenty of fans disappointed (he got 11 minutes of screentime? Really??), it laid the foundations for potentially insane and epic sequels, which seems to be the path that they want to take.

An idea that’s apparently being bandied about is the possibility of a crossover between the Godzilla universe and the world of Pacific Rim. Well, that would certainly make things “bigger and better”.

Del Toro excitedly explains:

So far with the sequel, what we’re writing, what we’re creating, is very different, so there are no plans. Hypothetically, I would love the fuck out of it. I would love to see a jaeger and Godzilla duke it out. That would be too much for the human brain.

If this were to happen, I’d buy every single ticket for a Friday night showing so that I could have the theater to myself for that kind of sheer awesomeness. Just give me a bucket of popcorn, a giant cup of lemonade, and maybe a bag of Sour Patch Kids. Then, crank the volume and leave me alone so I can scream for joy.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
