Freddy Krueger – A Nightmare On Elm Street
C’mon, you didn’t really think I was going to leave out Krueger, did you? Well, you probably didn’t think that, since he’s in the header image, but still. There is nothing I can say about Freddy Krueger that hasn’t already been said, but I’ll say them anyway. Freddy Krueger is Wes Craven’s greatest creation, and has arguably inspired more nightmare’s than any other horror movie slasher. He started out as a truly terrifying figure, eventually becoming a source of funny one-liners. He then reverted back into scary territory with New Nightmare (a personal favorite of mine). No matter what tone he took on though, he always had a strong personality and presence. Craven always wrote him as a menacing, evil being. His writing combined with Robert Englund’s performance make Krueger one of the best on-screen villains ever created, by Craven or anyone else.
