Just the other day it was announced that Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim 2 had been put on an “indefinite hold” and that the 2017 release date was basically off the table. Apparently that’s news to del Toro, who tells EW, “We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks. As far as I’m concerned, it’s not gone. We’re still on it.”
However, he did admit that the film might not arrive in August, 2017, as was originally intended. “It moved further,” he adds. “I may do another movie in the middle.”
The director jokes about his frustrations with some of the projects he wanted to make, saying, “I can tell you this, if I was a billionaire, I would definitely do Hellboy 3, Pacific Rim 2, and At the Mountains of Madness. And I would quickly become a millionaire.”
I guess we’ll have to see what happens in the coming weeks before we know the status of the jaegers and if we’ll see them fight anymore kaiju.
