Shocking news coming out of Poland that director Marcin Wrona, whose Polish horror movie Demon just had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, was found dead in a hotel room in Poland. He was 42 years old.
Wrona’s third film, Demon focused on a “dybbuk”, a Jewish spirit that haunts the living. It was apparently meant to be a way for Poland to come to terms with World War II and the Holocaust.
Demon was co-produced by Olga Szymanska, who he had recently married. The duo had also just signed with ICM Partners for sale, bringing the movie into the U.S. market and for possible future films.
Demon was also set to appear Gdynia Film Festival in Poland, which was why Wrona was back in the country. It was also going to appear at Fantastic Fest in Austin and the Sitges Film Festival in Catalonia before having a theatrical run in Poland.
