New to Blu – Week of 10/20/2015
Each week here at Bloody Disgusting we like to highlight some of the new Blu-ray releases hitting shelves across the world. Please note that this isn’t every release for the week, just a few of the ones that jumped out at us.
Another HUGE week of releases. October has been very kind to us. Scream Factory has a few releases this week for us here in the US including The Larry Fessenden Collection which I highly recommend picking up. Plus we have A Bucket of Blood making it’s debut on Blu-ray, some cool Zavvi Steelbooks and a whole lot more!
US Releases
Jurassic World (Universal)
Synopsis:
Twenty-two years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond.
Back to the Future: The Complete Adventures (Universal)
Synopsis:

Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight (Scream Factory)
Synopsis:
Brayker is a man who carries the last of seven keys, special containers which held the blood of Christ and were scattered across the universe to prevent the forces of evil from taking over. If The Collector gets the last key, the universe will fall into Chaos, and he has been tracking Brayker all the way to a small inn in a nowhere town. And now the final battle for the universe begins.
Tales from the Crypt: Bordella of Blood (Scream Factory)
Synopsis:
Madam Lilithand her luscious cohorts run a most unusual bordello on the edge of town. They don’t just take your money for services rendered – they bleed their customers dry! But wisecracking private eye Rafe Guttman is on the case, and soon he must battle not only a den of scantily clad vampiresses, but also the Reverend Jimmy Current a slick televangelist with an all-powerful talisman.
Kawidan (Criterion Collection)
Synopsis:
This film contains four stories. “Black Hair”: A poor samurai who divorces his true love to marry for money, but finds the marriage disastrous and returns to his old wife, only to discover something eerie about her. “The Woman in the Snow”: A woodcutter meets an icy spirit in the form of a woman spares his life on the condition that he never tell anyone about her. A decade later he forgets his promise. “Hoichi the Earless”: Hoichi is a blind musician, living in a monastery who sings so well that a ghostly imperial court commands him to perform the epic ballad of their death battle for them. But the ghosts are draining away his life. “In a Cup of Tea”: a writer tells the story of a man who keep seeing a mysterious face reflected in his cup of tea…
The Oblong Box (Kino Lorber)
Synopsis:
Sir Edward Markham is the victim of a voodoo curse which has caused his face to become horribly disfigured. He is kept captive in the attic of his house by his brother Julian (Vincent Price). Sir Edward escapes, moves in with an unscrupulous doctor who hires grave robbers to steal bodies for his research, wears a red hood over his face, and kills a good number of townspeople before the surprise ending…
Demonoid (Vinegar Syndrome)
Synopsis:
A British woman visits her husband at the Mexican mine he is attempting to reopen and discovers that the workers refuse to enter the mine fearing an ancient curse. The couple enter the mine to prove there is no danger and inadvertently release a demon which possess people’s left hands and forces them to behave in a suitably diabolical manner. The only way for a possessed person to free themselves from this torment is to cut off their left hand after which it scurries away in search of its next victim…
Frightmare (Vinegar Syndrome)
Synopsis:
Drama students decide to pay tribute to their favorite horror star by stealing his body from his crypt for a farewell party. They fail to realize their violation of the tomb has triggered powerful black magic, and Conrad hasn’t taken his final bows yet.

I Spit on Your Grave III: Vengeance is Mine (Starz/Anchor Bay)
Synopsis:
After seeking out the help of a support group after her attack, a young woman decides to take the law into her own hands. She begins to dish out her own brand of justice to the people who abused her fellow group members.
The Bat (The Film Detective)
Synopsis:
Mystery writer Cornelia Van Gorder has rented a country house called “The Oaks”, which not long ago had been the scene of some murders committed by a strange and violent criminal known as “The Bat”. Meanwhile, the house’s owner, bank president John Fleming, has recently embezzled one million dollars in securities, and has hidden the proceeds in the house, but he is killed before he can retrieve the money. Thus the lonely country house soon becomes the site of many mysterious and dangerous activities…
Stephen King’s A Good Marriage (Screen Media)
Synopsis:
As a sadistic serial killer is spreading fear across the Northeast, taunting the police as his victims pile up, Darcy Anderson (Joan Allen) and her husband Bob (Anthony LaPaglia) are celebrating another year of a good marriage. But when Darcy unveils a sinister secret about her husband, it threatens their perfect marriage — and lives.
A Bucket of Blood (The Film Detective)
Synopsis:
Walter Paisley, nerdy busboy at a Bohemian café, is jealous of the talent (and popularity) of its various artistic regulars. But after accidentally killing his landlady’s cat and covering the body in plaster to hide the evidence, he is acclaimed as a brilliant sculptor – but his new-found friends want to see more of his work. Lacking any artistic talent whatsoever, Walter has to resort to similar methods to produce new work, and soon people start mysteriously disappearing…

Synopsis:

Red Sun (Studio Canal)
Synopsis:
The Japanese ambassador is traveling through the Wild West by train, when gangsters hold up the train to rob a gold shipment. They also carry an ancient Japanese sword the ambassador was carrying as a present for the US president. The ambassador’s bodyguard (Toshiro Mifune) will go after them, with the aid of one of the gang’s leaders betrayed by his pals.
Teen Wolf (Zavvi Steelbook)
Synopsis:
Teen discovers that puberty for him means he turns into a werewolf. One of the beneficial side effects is that it also turns him into a top-notch basketball player. But will his notoriety cost him his friends and can he find true love?
The Addams Family (Zavvi Steelbook)
Synopsis:
Con artists plan to fleece the eccentric family using an accomplice who claims to be their long lost Uncle Fester.
Bram Stoker’s Dracula (Zavvi Steelbook)
Synopsis:
A young English lawyer, Jonathan Harker, is sent to a gloomy village in eastern Europe. He is captured and imprisoned by the undead vampire Dracula, who travels to London, inspired by a photograph of Harker’s betrothed, Mina Murray. In Britain, Dracula begins a reign of seduction and terror, draining the life from Mina’s closest friend, Lucy Westenra. Lucy’s friends gather together to try to drive away Dracula and rescue Mina.

Synopsis:
Evan seems like the perfect guy. He’s an architect, lives in a beautiful California home, has two kids and a lovely talented wife. One afternoon, the wife and kids go to the beach but Evan has to stay home and work. It’s raining, he’s alone, listening to music, and there’s a knock at the door. Two beautiful young girls, are standing in the cold. They’re drenched, lost and just want to come in to dry off and use the phone.

Tales of Halloween (Splendid Film)
Synopsis:
Ten stories are woven together by their shared theme of Halloween night in an American suburb, where ghouls, imps, aliens and axe murderers appear for one night only to terrorize unsuspecting residents.
The Shooter (Edel Germany GmBH)
Synopsis:
US Marshal Mickey Dane is sent back to his native Prague to investigate the assassination of a Cuban UN ambassador. The prime suspect is professional hit woman Simone Rosset, the lesbian co-owner of a posh restaurant there. The other owner is Simone’s girl friend. Mickey catches Simone, but then she escapes. He and his partner CIA-agent Alex Reed, catch her again and take her into the countryside until they can sneak her back into the States. As time passes, Mickey begins suspecting that she is innocent of the crime. Simone swears that she has retired and hasn’t left the Czech Republic in over five years. Finally convinced, he and she head back for Prague only to find themselves even more deeply entangled in a complex conspiracy, treachery and violence.

Driver (The Corporation/L’Atelier d’images)
Synopsis:
In Los Angeles, a mysterious getaway driver renowned for his speed and ability behind the wheel is pursued by an obsessive detective and his men. Drawn into their cat-and-mouse game is a beautiful gambler who saw the driver’s face during a casino heist, but refuses to identify him to the police.
Son of Frankenstein (Elephant Films)
Synopsis:
Wolf von Frankenstein returns to the Baronial manor from the United States with his wife Elsa and son Peter. He not made welcome by the locals who are still terrified of his father’s works and the monster he created. The local Burgomaster gives him a sealed briefcase left by his father and inside, Wolf finds his father’s scientific notes. At the manor house he meets his father’s assistant Igor who has a surprise for him: the monster his father created is still alive, though in some sort of coma. Wolf’s initial attempts to re-animate the creature seem to fail but when Peter says he saw a giant in the woods, it appears he’s met success. When people are mysteriously killed in the village there is little doubt that the monster is responsible…
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (Elephant Films)
Synopsis:
Larry Talbot finds himself in an asylum, recovering from an operation performed by the kindly Dr. Mannering. Inspector Owen finds him there, too, wanting to question him about a recent spate of murders. Talbot escapes and finds Maleva, the old gypsy woman who knows his secret: he’s a werewolf. She travels with him to locate the one man who can help him to die – Dr. Frankenstein. The brilliant doctor proves to be dead himself, but they do find Frankenstein’s daughter. Talbot begs her for her father’s papers containing the secrets of life and death. She doesn’t have them, so he goes to the ruins of the Frankenstein castle to find them himself. There he finds the Monster, whom he chips out of a block of ice. Dr. Mannering catches up with him only to become tempted to monomania while using Frankenstein’s old equipment…
Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein (Elephant Films)
Synopsis:
The world of baggage handlers Chick Young and Wilbur Grey is turned upside down when they receive the remains of Dracula and Frankenstein bound for the House of Horrors Museum. When Dracula and Frankenstein escape, complete chaos ensues as Chick and Wilbur get mixed up in an evil plot to switch Wilbur’s brain with Frankenstein’s and are aided by Larry Talbot, who turns into The Wolf Man when the moon is full! Featuring a perfect blend of laughs and thrills, this is one of the all-time great horror comedies.

Watch the Opening ‘Mortal Kombat II’ Battle Scene Now Ahead of Physical Media Release in July
Sequel Mortal Kombat II is now available to watch at home on Digital before heading to physical media in July, but you can test your might now and watch the opening scene.
Mortal Kombat director Simon McQuoid returns to the helm for the new sequel from a script by Jeremy Slater (“Moon Knight,” Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire).
In Mortal Kombat II, the fan-favorite champions — now joined by Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) — are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.
Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada are also part of the ensemble cast of Mortal Kombat II fighters.
Watch the opening below, which introduces a young Kitana (Sophia Xu) as Emperor Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford) prepares to conquer her father, King Jerrod (Desmond Chiam), and her kingdom of Edenia. It sets the sequel’s entire plot in motion.
From New Line Cinema, James Wan’s Atomic Monster, Broken Road Productions, and Fireside Films, Mortal Kombat II is rated R for “strong bloody violence and gore, and language.”
Look for Mortal Kombat II to arrive on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on July 28, 2026.
