Roar Uthaug, the director of the Norwegian disaster film The Wave (review), has been locked down to direct a reboot of Tomb Raider, the adventure action film that’s based off the video game series of the same name. Also, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who co-penned Transformers 5, has been tapped to write the screenplay, according to THR.
The last time we saw Lara Croft grace the silver screen was 2003’s Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, which was critically panned and didn’t generate as much revenue as the original 2001 film.
While the original films were based on the older series of Tomb Raider games, I’m hoping that this reboot will have more of the newer games’ feel, which is serious, epic, and a bit more grounded in reality. Plus, the new games are simply tons of fun, so if they can recreate that feeling on the screen then I’ll be really happy!
