It’s been almost exactly two years since the arrival of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and what started out as a gap between two longtime competitors has gradually become more of a chasm. With more than 30.2 million consoles sold worldwide — more than the Xbox One (10M shipped as of Nov 2014) and Wii U (10.7M sold as of Sept 30, 2015) — it’s not a stretch to say the PS4 is dominating the competition right now.
What’s particularly impressive about this is Sony has achieved this milestone with a lackluster first party line-up that’s arguably not quite as strong as what the Xbox One has going for it this holiday season thanks to Halo 5 and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Unfortunately, even the combined talents of Lara Croft and the Master Chief can’t make up for the platform’s weaknesses, including Xbox Live Gold, which is still objectively inferior to PS Plus.
And that’s not to say the PS4 doesn’t have some strong exclusives. It does, and they’re called Bloodborne. Speaking of which, Bloodborne: The Old Hunters is out now.
