There has been talk of a potential Gremlins sequel/reboot/remake for a while now. In today’s movie world, it’s gone from, “How could they even THINK to do such a thing?!” to “It was just a matter of time,” so while there may be some consternation, there isn’t much in the way of surprise. However, the path that Gremlins 3 might go down could be different than many of us expected.
According to Zach Galligan, who played “Billy” in the original two films, a third film might take inspiration from Jurassic World and simply continue the story, only years after the events we’ve already seen.
“It’s not going to be a reboot. It will not be a remake in any way, shape, or form. Chris Columbus has come out and said that the first film is very near and dear to his heart and as long as he is alive it will never be remade. So the only thing they will be – and apparently are going to be – doing is something along the lines of like Jurassic World, where it will be 30 years later,” Galligan told audiences at a recent screening of the original 1984 film at London’s Prince Charles Cinema, via Games Radar.
Just like how Jurassic World saw the return of B.D. Wong as “Dr. Wu”, could Galligan return to reprise his role as Billy? “I swear on my life, I don’t know if I’m in it or not, but I think there is probably a decent chance since I’m one of the few people left standing from the first movie.”
Look, I personally don’t care if he’s in it or not. Just give me Gizmo and I’ll be happy!
