‘Strangers 2’ Gets a Release Date, As Does ‘The Disappointments Room’ and ‘Before I Wake’!
Relativity Media is back with a vengeance having slated a ton of films for 2016.
Starting with Strangers 2… The sequel to the 2008 slasher The Strangers has been set for release on December 2, 2016, giving them a year to lock a director, cast and produce the film. It’s doable, but considering the setbacks in the past I’ll believe it when I see it.
I personally checked in to see who is directing and am awaiting confirmation. The last we heard (this past January) was that Marcel Langenegger (Deception) was attached to direct with the screenplay by Ben Ketai (Chosen).
“Strangers 2 is a thrilling sequel that lives up to the hype of the original film. After financial troubles force them to move out of their house, a family of four try to make it through the night in a deserted trailer park while being hunted by the savage, ax-wielding, mask-wearing trio wrecking havoc once again.”
Roy Lee, Doug Davison, Nathan Kahane and Trevor Macy produce.
In other Relativity news…
Relativity has dated The Disappointments Room, starring Underworld‘s Kate Beckinsale and Gerald McRaney, for release on March 25, 2016.
“The psychological thriller follows a woman (Beckinsale) who moves into a new house with her 5-year-old son only to discover a secret room within the attic where unimaginable horrors are accidentally unlocked.”
I Am Number Four and Eagle Eye helmer D.J. Caruso rewrote and is directing from an original script by “Prison Break” star Wentworth Miller, who penned last year’s gothic thriller Stoker.
Also, from Mike Flanagan, the director of Oculus, comes Before I Wake, a fresh child-horror film starring Kate Bosworth, Thomas Jane, Dash Mihok, Annabeth Gish and Jacob Tremblay.
Relativity will not release this supernatural thriller on April 8, 2016.
In it, “Jessie and Mark, recovering from the death of their young son Sean, decide to take in 8-year-old Cody as a foster child. Cody seems sweet, loving and bright in every way, except that he is afraid to sleep. They soon discover why: Cody’s dreams manifest in reality as he sleeps. In Jessie’s grief, she tries to use Cody’s supernatural abilities to reconnect with her dead son. Soon she discovers that Cody’s nightmares manifest as well, as they experience both the intense wonder – and intense terror – that only a child’s imagination could conjure. To save their new family, Jessie and Mark must uncover the truth behind Cody’s nightmares.“
Described as “Ted meets ET,” David Mikalson’s raunchy comedy Goblin is being brought to life over at A24, and Will Forte (“The Four Seasons”) is now in talks to star.
Deadline first reported the news this afternoon.
Kenneth Branagh has been cast to voice the titular Goblin in the upcoming A24 movie, with the character said to be “green-colored” as well as “anatomically correct.”
Skyler Gisondo (Superman) is reportedly playing the Goblin’s human best friend.
The mysterious project sounds a bit like films including A Gnome Named Gnorm and more recently, Frankie Freako, though it’s important to note that it’s not billed as a horror movie.
Deadline details, “After [Mikalson] hatched the idea to make an outrageous buddy comedy about a goblin, using a practical puppet and operating outside the Hollywood system, his script quickly got him a rep team. While others might have eyed the raunchy comedy as a writing sample or planned to wait to see the micro-budget version Mikalson has been directing in Kentucky, A24 jumped all over it. The hot indie essentially has agreed to finance a full feature.”
“There was a lot of interest, but A24 came with what Mikalson really wanted, after spending all his money crafting the puppet title character: they acquired the movie and agreed to let him make it with a significantly increased budget than what he had left after creating the anatomically correct title character,” Deadline’s report goes on to explain.
What does the titular Goblin actually look like? Well, a cake that Mikalson had whipped up for his reps might give us our first look at what to expect. Deadline explains the photo you’ll see down below, “Take a look at the cake he commissioned with Marc Gravelle at Cake Art in West Hollywood, to present to his reps as thanks for making his dream come true.”
