Hideo Kojima has officially separated from the formerly loved and respected video game publisher that is Konami, according to a recent report from Japan’s Nikkei (via Polygon).
Kojima’s contract with Konami was expected to end this month, and it seems it finally has. Now, the famed game designer and almost-collaborator on the prematurely canned Silent Hills is free to use his mad genius to bring us something new. I imagine it will be a gorgeous, cinematic experience that’s as ambitious as it is ridiculous. I can’t wait.
This also means I can write less about Konami. That’s fantastic.
We may already have an idea of where his next game is headed. Kojima is reportedly in talks with Sony, and while that doesn’t necessarily mean his next project will be a PS4 exclusive, there’s a chance it’ll have something to do with virtual reality. Sony’s pushing the tech hard next year, starting with the launch of the PlayStation VR headset that’s scheduled to arrive by the end of March.
