‘Doom’ Mod Takes the Fight to LV-426 and the Alien Xenomorphs!

I had some strange parents, if I were to think back on my childhood. I’m my dad’s third kid and his second son, so I was treated almost like an experiment. I’m pretty sure my dad looked at me when I was born and thought, “I can fuck around with this one. I have two good other ones.

As a result, I was able to watch a ton of R-rated movies before I was in the first grade, I was taken to gun and knife shows on the hunt for antique blades, and the like. But one thing both my parents agreed upon was that I couldn’t play violent video games. Why? I have absolutely no idea. Apparently it was okay to watch Predator but not play Freedom Force on the NES. Strange, strange parents…

One of the big games that I loved watching my friends play whenever I went over to their place was Doom. Obviously there were others, like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, etc… that really drew me in but it was Doom that captured my imagination. After all, it was essentially the video game version of those 80’s action movies that my dad and I loved watching together. A badass killing machine is tasked with saving the world against seemingly unstoppable villains? Fuck yeah!

That’s why I’m so pumped and excited about this mod that takes Doom and reskins it to make it look and feel just like an Aliens game! It really looks like a game that ID Software would’ve created had they received the Aliens license and it’s making me wish I had a PC so that I could play it!

Something that I think is super cool about this mod is the acid blood mechanic. After you blast apart a xenomorph, there are puddles of acid blood that hurt your character if you step on them. So you have to wait a bit before progressing, which throttles back the frantic frenzy of the game into something a bit more paced, a bit more suspenseful. Because who knows what waiting could bring around the corner?
