Mill Creek February Releases Include ‘My Science Project’

Published

on

Bargain brand favorite Mill Creek has announced their February release lineup and there are a handful of titles that may be over some interest to Bloody Disgusting readers. The one I’m most looking forward to is the Blu-ray release of My Science Project, the debut film from director Jonathan R. Betuel. It’s been a number of years since I’ve seen the film, but I liked it when I was a kid and am eager to re-visit it. If memory serves My Science Project is a lot of fun. I’ve included the trailer below so you can take a look for yourself. Also I find Mill Creek Blu-rays to usually be pretty solid. They’re almost always bare bones releases, but they have solid transfers.

My Science Project
Release Date: 2/16/2016

Synopsis:
Michael Harlan (John Stockwell, Top Gun) has procrastinated on his science project until the last minute, and his teacher (Dennis Hopper, Speed) issues him an ultimatum; turn in a science project or flunk. So Mike scavenges a military base’s junk pile for a suitable gizmo to pass off as his project. He finds one…and unwittingly unleashes the awesome power and energy of the unknown. Twisted dimensions and time warps collide to create a whirling vortex that takes the class on a startling adventure back in time and into the future.

Frankenstein
Release Date: 2/16/2016

Synopsis:
What happens when man violates the laws of God and science? For Captain Walton (Emmy and Golden Globe winner Donald Sutherland, The Hunger Games) and the crew of a weather-beaten ship stranded in the icy sea, the answer follows their rescue of a scientist close to death, frozen in fear, and insane with dire warnings. Viktor Frankenstein (Alec Newman, Frank Herbert’s Dune) has a story to tell—a story as chillingly real as the tortured howls emanating from the Arctic fog and as timeless as the need to be loved.

Bump in the Night: The Complete Series
Release Date: 2/16/2016

Synopsis:
The hilarious stop-motion animation adventures of Mr. Bumpy, Squishy, Molly Coddle and the various “household monsters” who make sure their humans are protected from dirty socks and other scary things.

Chris Coffel is originally from Phoenix, AZ and now resides in Portland, OR. He once scored 26 goals in a game of FIFA. He likes the Phoenix Suns, Paul Simon and 'The 'Burbs.' Oh and cats. He also likes cats.

‘Hokum’ Heads Home to Digital Tomorrow Ahead of Physical Media Release in August

Hokum Review - Hokum Digital Release Date

After scaring up a strong theatrical run, Oddity director Damian McCarthy’s Hokum heads home to Digital this week.

Settle in for a spooky supernatural chiller as Hokum arrives on all Digital platforms to rent or own beginning June 2, followed by a Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Combo and DVD release on August 11, 2026.

Adam Scott (“Severance”) stars in Hokum as reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman. When he retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw Ohm into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past.

Peter Coonan (“The Alienist: Angel of Darkness”), David Wilmot (“Station Eleven”), Florence Ordesh (“Departure”), Michael Patric (“Frontier”), Will O’Connell (“Game of Thrones”), Brendan Conroy (“Bodkin”), and Austin Amelio (“The Walking Dead”) also star.

Get a peek at the upcoming physical media release below, including a few special features.

Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee (Weapons) & Steven Schneider (Insidious) produce alongside Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy (Late Night with the Devil), Tailored Film’s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, & Mairtín de Barra, and Cweature Features’ Ken Kao & Josh Rosenbaum.

I wrote in my review for Bloody Disgusting, “A quaint Irish hotel with a deeply haunted history awaits an American writer in McCarthy’s third outing, continuing his streak for folkloric tales of supernatural karma and spine-tingling terror with a dark sense of humor.”

What’s next from Damian McCarthy? He’s currently writing a haunted house movie, but recent comments suggest he may be moving into other genres beyond that upcoming project.
