Disney is rolling in the dough as Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues to bring them colossal amounts of money (it’s pulled in nearly $1.9 billion worldwide). To keep that cash cow going, they’re beginning the opening marketing pushes for another Star Wars: Episode VIII as well as another moneymaker: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth film in the franchise and the sequel to the 2011 On Stranger Tides.
The studio has announced that Star Wars: Episode VIII will be hitting theaters on December 15th, 2017, which means the film has been pushed back nearly a full seven months from its original release date of May 26th, 2017. Additionally, they’ve announced Dead Men Tell No Tales will be coming out on July 7th, 2017.
Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, Dead Men Tell No Tales is currently in post-production.
In Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, “Johnny Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow with Geoffrey Rush back on board as Barbossa, Orlando Bloom resurfacing as Will Turner, and a terrifying new adversary, Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem, in the mix.”
No details regarding the plot of Star Wars: Episode VIII have been released. What we know is that it’s written and directed by Rian Johnson with Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman producing and J.J. Abrams, Tom Karnowski, and Jason McGatlin acting as executive producers. It is set to begin principal photography in London next month.
