Become a Monster With This ‘Dying Light’ SFX Video

Earlier this month, we shared an amazing video that recapped 100 years of zombies in pop culture using some of the coolest make-up effects I’ve seen outside of a really, really well-made horror flick. The highlight of the video came at the end, when we were treated to a gruesome recreation of one of the Volatiles from Techland’s open-world horror game Dying Light.

It was an enormously cool way to remind us of the release of the game’s expansion, The Following, just as it reminded us of some of the most influential twists on zombies in pop culture, from the classic Romero zombies in Night of the Living Dead to the agile infected in 28 Days Later, the living bioweapons of Resident Evil and the modern classic take seen in The Walking Dead.

The video was made by the exceptional team of body make-up artists that run Ellimacs, an SFX-centric YouTube channel that shares our fondness for horror and the macabre. Ellimacs has tackled a myriad monsters from movies and games on their channel that you absolutely should check out, but if you don’t want to right now, just know that I will be sharing more of their stuff in the future.

Take this Until Dawn SFX tutorial video, for example. In it, you’ll see a normal, human lady transform into one of the game’s horrifying Wendigo creatures. So. Freaking. Cool.
