Just as Dimension Films had unrolled their marketing campaign, it’s being reported by Dread Central that Amityville: The Awakening has yet again been pulled from release.
Amityville: The Awakening, the official Amityville Horror sequel, was slated for a wide release on April 1st, 2016. I guess the joke truly was on us?
An update to the story is that a new confirmed date has been announced – and you’re not going to like it. The next Amityville will now hit theaters on January 6, 2017.
The news comes on the heels of reports of various test screening in Los Angeles. One of our own readers contacted me to exclaim how much he enjoyed the latest film from Maniac director Franck Khalfoun.
We put in word with Dimension and Blumhouse for an official statement but have yet to hear back. We will update when there’s something substantial.
The film has been retitled, retooled ands recut multiple times since its initial delay in September of 2014.
In Amityville: The Awakening, “Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.”
Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne, McKenna Grace, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, Thomas Mann and Jennifer Morrison star.
