Our first real look at Outlast 2 brings to mind the cop chase from Alan Wake, where the eponymous writer was forced to run through a dark forest unarmed and chased by the stray beams of light from his would-be captors.
Red Barrels puts the expected horror movie twist on this familiarly effective chase scene by dropping the player in a setting that seems intent on using every tool in the scary storytelling arsenal — the first video starts inside a house of gore nestled inside a creepy cornfield — to string a sequence of horrific events so they play out like an anarchic haunted attraction where your chances of escape seem frighteningly slim.
Looking at these two videos, it’s clear this game will be more of the Outlast we know and love, complete with intense chase sequence that get the blood pumping, or flowing, depending on whether or not you make it.
Outlast 2 releases this fall for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Here’s a look at the game’s eerie walk-in demo from PAX East this weekend.
