Time’s Running Out for ‘Ghost Theory’

Published

on

Anyone know someone with about $15k to spare? Because I’m going to be super bummed out if Friday the 13th (May 13) rolls around and Ghost Theory still hasn’t reached its £50,000 ($71,178) funding goal. As I’m writing this, its Kickstarter campaign has just over $56k, so unless its final week is a great one, we won’t be getting a supernatural horror game that’s basically about living the life of a globetrotting Ghostbuster.

And this isn’t only coming to PC. Ghost Theory has been confirmed for PC, Mac, Linux, PS4 and Xbox One, so we’re all in this fight. I don’t mean you need to support it with your own money, either. The team behind it recently sent out a rallying call to the community that breaks down all the many different ways you can support this potentially wonderful horror game.

Seriously. Do it. I’ll know if you don’t. I mean, I won’t, I’m not that powerful, but the shame you’ll feel for letting this one slip away will haunt you forever, probably.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
