Last night’s episode of AMC’s “Preacher” was quite unorthodox as it was anything but pleasant to watch. Already struggling to retain viewers, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have finally introduced us to the Saint of All Killers. Adephi angels DeBlanc and Fiore have failed to obtain Genesis from Jesse Custer, and have resorted to “Plan B”…taking a trip to Hell to ask the all mighty Saint for help. In doing so, the viewers were also transported to Hell, which in the television series is a paradox loop of the worst moment in a person’s life. The Saint of All Killers lost his entire family, and ends up butchering an entire saloon. The episode, which leads into next week’s season finale, slowly builds this “loop” into a montage of violence and insanity, and runs it like a YouTube gag for what feels like 5 minutes. Calling it “intense” is an understatement…
I think it’s pretty clear now what the filmmakers are leading up to with the finale, which will be the starting point for Garth Ennis’ comics. This would mean that “Preacher’s” debut season was actually a prequel to the comic arc, which follows Jesse’s journey (with Cassidy and Tulip) to find God and make him answer for abandoning mankind. This is foreshadowed in the voice message Jesse leaves on Tulip’s answering machine before the credits rolled: “Until the end of time.”
But I digress, below is a look at last night’s scene in which DeBlanc and Fiore visit Hell to ask the Saint of Killers for help dealing with Jesse.
