The name Don Post Studios is one that should be familiar to anyone who’s ever owned a Halloween mask, and it’s a name that’s especially important to the history of the Halloween film franchise. As is common knowledge by now, the original Michael Myers mask was a repainted Don Post Captain Kirk mask, and the legendary company also designed the three masks used in recently-embraced sequel Halloween 3: Season of the Witch; the skull and witch masks already existed, but the jack-o-lantern was made specifically for the film.
But what you may not know is that long before “sexy Michael Myers” costumes became a thing we just have to deal with, Don Post turned their Myers mask into something, well, special.
Back in 2001, Don Post for whatever reason came up with the idea of making a female Michael Myers mask, which they dubbed “She Mask”; the few fans that actually know about the oddball offering tend to refer to it as the “Michelle Myers mask.” They added long hair to the iconic mask, which could be worn down or in a ponytail, and they also painted pink lipstick on the lips, light blue eyeshadow around the eyes, and even gave Michael eyebrows.
The end result? A terrifying mash-up between William Shatner, Michael Myers, and a woman.
These days, the “She Mask” is almost impossible to come by, but those who have actually seen the still-unreleased 2007 movie The Poughkeepsie Tapes may recognize it. Yes, the killer in that film wears Don Post’s most bizarre mask!
