Shared cinematic universes are all the rage.
We’ve seen (and shared) a lot of really awesome horror mash-up art in recent years, and as artists continue to get more and more creative, we continue to be more and more impressed. Remember when Travis Falligant put horror icons into the world of “Scooby Doo”? Or how about all that fun “It’s the Great Pumpkinhead, Charlie Brown” art we shared last month?
This latest mash-up to come to our attention… holy shit is it cool.
Artist Clinton Neuhaus merged The Shining and Poltergeist for a painting that he contributed to the Conjoined 666 art show earlier this year, and the acrylic-on-wood painting, titled “The Open Door,” is one of the coolest pieces of horror movie art we’ve seen. All the major players from both films are depicted, the painting imagining a world wherein they exist in the same universe.
Hey, they’re both supernatural classics from the ’80s, so why the hell not?!

On a related note, there’s a fan out there who actually believes Poltergeist to be a sequel to The Shining. Seriously. His wacky theory, with lots of wacky evidence, can be viewed on KDK12.
