Horror Sequels

Well this has been a long time coming.

I once declared Bryan Bertino’s The Strangers one of the most terrifying movies of the past 10 years here on Bloody Disgusting, and I stand by that statement. It’s been nine years since three masked maniacs butchered an unhappy young couple and promised that it’d “be easier next time,” and we’re happy to report that the long-gestating follow-up film is finally on its way.

We’ve just learned that BLOOM has taken international rights to The Strangers 2, penned by Bryan Bertino and Ben Ketai and being directed by Johannes Roberts (The Other Side of the Door). BLOOM will be handling international sales at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.

The sequel “follows a family whose road trip takes a turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park and after the power goes out they decide to hunker down for the night in a borrowed trailer. Under the cover of darkness three familiar masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test their every limit.”

Said Roberts:

Working with The Fyzz and Bloom to bring the brilliant set-up from the first movie to a new generation and deliver a powerful sequel is incredibly exciting

Casting is now underway with the US-based shoot scheduled for this summer.

The Fyzz Facility Pictures’ Wayne Marc Godfrey (The Foreigner, The Survivalist), Robert Jones (Centurion, The Usual Suspects), Mark Lane & James Harris (47 Meters Down, I Am Not A Serial Killer) are producing, in association with Relativity Media.

While we wait for the serial killer thriller Longlegs, director Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel) has already set up his NEXT movie. It’s titled Keeper.

Deadline reports tonight that Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) and Rossif Sutherland (Possessor) will star in Keeper, and NEON has acquired the rights to the project.

Deadline notes, “Neon will distribute in the U.S. and handle international sales rights to the film in Cannes, with Elevation Pictures set to distribute in Canada.”

Keeper follows a couple as they escape for a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin. When Malcolm (Sutherland) suddenly returns to the city, Liz (Maslany) finds herself isolated and in the presence of an unspeakable evil that unveils the cabin’s horrifying secrets.”

Perkins will direct from a screenplay written by Nick Lepard.

First up, NEON will release Longlegs in theaters on July 12.
