Never heard of the book? That’s cause it’s not even out yet!
The first of four books in the A People’s History of the Vampire Uprising series, penned by Raymond A. Villareal, is set to be released next year, but 20th Century Fox and 21 Laps have already acquired the novel. Deadline reports today that Fox made the preemptive film deal amid interest from other studios such as Universal, Warner Bros., and Sony.
The plan? They’d like to turn the as-yet unpublished books into a movie franchise.
A People’s History of the Vampire Uprising, described as World War Z with vampires, is an “oral history” of the appearance, assimilation, and ultimately epic and violent confrontation of vampires with the human race. It chronicles the rise of the vampires, who call themselves “The Gloaming,” from multiple points of view: the CDC investigator who discovers a mysterious virus; the FBI agent who forms the first Gloaming Crimes Unit; a civil rights attorney’s analysis of the Gloaming Equal Rights Act; an obsessive Vatican librarian; and even TMZ.
Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen will produce the feature adaptation.
