February is officially Women in Horror Month, and if there’s one thing the genre needs right now, it’s more horror movies directed by women. Which is why we’re excited today to report that female filmmaker Leslye Hedland (Sleeping With Other People, “Heathers”) has signed on to direct revenge thriller The New Neighbors, just optioned by STX Entertainment.
The psychological film, said to be in the vein of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, was co-written by Headland and David Schickler (“Banshee”). The story centers on a couple who move into an affluent suburban community only to find out that their enclave is filled with dirty secrets.
Aren’t they all?!
Matt Berenson with Lee Stollman and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein of The Gotham Group are set to produce. Schickler and Headland will executive produce.
