Dee Snider Updates On ‘Strangeland 2’; “Now is the Time”
Nearly 20 years ago, we met Captain Howdy.
Just as the internet was starting to take over the world, Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider smartly capitalized by writing and starring in the horror film Strangeland, released in 1998. The charmingly dated film, directed by John Pieplow, has amassed a cult fanbase over the years, and many of those fans have been begging for a sequel that’s been talked about for a while now.
In fact, a sequel to Strangeland was originally given the green light before the first film even came out, which just goes to show how long it’s been in development!
Taking to Facebook over the weekend, Dee Snider posted a short video promoting some of his upcoming projects, and in it he provided an update on the Strangeland sequel:
[I’m] gearing up to hopefully go into production with Strangeland 2. I know I’ve talked about this for twenty years. I sound like a broken record. And I hate even saying it out loud, cause you’ve had so many disappointments with this project. But it’s feeling like now is the time. Feeling like this is gonna happen this time around – I’ve also said that before, so don’t hold me to this.
Last we heard, the plot for Strangeland 2 was as follows: “One year after Carleton Hendricks aka Captain Howdy’s (Dee Snider) sadistic rampage, much more than the physical scars the schizophrenic, sexual sadist gave his victims are left behind. Their lives, destroyed by emotional torment and the media frenzy surrounding the crimes, Detective Mike Gage, his daughter Geneveve and vigilante Jackson Roth (Robert Englund) each have their crosses to bear. But when the badly burned and mentally broken Carlton Hendricks is taken from a state run mental hospital and off his medication by billionaire, media mogul, Morgan LaForce, leader of the body modification/fetish haven called “The Torture Garden”, the door swings wide open for each of Captain Howdy’s victims to find closure… and retribution.”

Described as “Ted meets ET,” David Mikalson’s raunchy comedy Goblin is being brought to life over at A24, and Will Forte (“The Four Seasons”) is now in talks to star.
Deadline first reported the news this afternoon.
Kenneth Branagh has been cast to voice the titular Goblin in the upcoming A24 movie, with the character said to be “green-colored” as well as “anatomically correct.”
Skyler Gisondo (Superman) is reportedly playing the Goblin’s human best friend.
The mysterious project sounds a bit like films including A Gnome Named Gnorm and more recently, Frankie Freako, though it’s important to note that it’s not billed as a horror movie.
Deadline details, “After [Mikalson] hatched the idea to make an outrageous buddy comedy about a goblin, using a practical puppet and operating outside the Hollywood system, his script quickly got him a rep team. While others might have eyed the raunchy comedy as a writing sample or planned to wait to see the micro-budget version Mikalson has been directing in Kentucky, A24 jumped all over it. The hot indie essentially has agreed to finance a full feature.”
“There was a lot of interest, but A24 came with what Mikalson really wanted, after spending all his money crafting the puppet title character: they acquired the movie and agreed to let him make it with a significantly increased budget than what he had left after creating the anatomically correct title character,” Deadline’s report goes on to explain.
What does the titular Goblin actually look like? Well, a cake that Mikalson had whipped up for his reps might give us our first look at what to expect. Deadline explains the photo you’ll see down below, “Take a look at the cake he commissioned with Marc Gravelle at Cake Art in West Hollywood, to present to his reps as thanks for making his dream come true.”
