Ubber Violent DAY OF THE DEAD DISERTION 6 Page Preview!
In case you missed the news a few weeks back, Arrow is planning a huge special edition Blu-Ray release for George A Romero’s 1985 masterpiece “DAY OF THE DEAD” to coincide with the films 25th anniversary. What makes this so special? The fact that Jeff Zornow (Fright Rags, “Halloween: The First Death of Laurie Strode”), Barry Keating (“Hack/Slash Meets The Reanimator”), and Stefan Hutchinson (Halloween comics) are collaborating on a 24 page original comic book to be packaged with the film that explains the origins of one of celluloid’s most famous zombies, Bub! It’s an all star cast of genre vets on this one, which looks to be a full on splatter fest. Inside you’ll find a sneak peek at the story that is gruesomely rendered by one of the best artists in the biz, Jeff Zornow!
“This March, Arrow Video celebrates the 25th Anniversary of writer-director George A. Romero’s 1985 horror masterpiece, Day Of The Dead, with a special two-disc Blu-ray release that features a host of world exclusive extras, including a restored presentation of the film, a new hi-def soundtrack (the original ‘uncensored dialogue’ version, completely restored), four alternate sleeves, a double-sided poster, a 24-page collector’s booklet ‘For Every Dawn There Is A Day’, plus a very special collector’s comic – ‘Day Of The Dead: Desertion’ – featuring a brand new ‘Bub’ storyline. Also after years of Dawn of the Dead getting all the great documentaries Day finally gets the retrospective it deserves with the all-new Joe of the Dead and Travelogue of the Dead.”
For those who aren’t familiar with the creative team on this one, Jeff Zornow is a very prolific artist within the industry who has donated his designs to many of Fright-Rags t-shirts as well as pencils for several comic books. His artwork is extremely unique, and usually when he takes on a project that means it’s going to be a quality effort. As for Keating he was the man responsible for the fan favorite “Reanimator” crossover in the “HACK/SLASH” universe for the folks over at Devil’s Due. I’m going to stay a bit skeptical on this one just because most movie tie-in stories lack in quality, but if this one is as exciting all the way through as the previews suggest then that theory might go right out the window.
“DAY OF THE DEAD: DISSERTION” Hits Stores On March 29th!

Thomas Jane’s Horror Comic ‘The Lycan’ Launches This Month via Comixology Originals
Thomas Jane is no stranger to the world of comics, having starred as Marvel antihero Frank Castle in 2004’s The Punisher, but now he’s serving as the editor the horror comic The Lycan.
Based on a story by Jane and screenwriter David James Kelly (Robin Hood), the six-issue series is penned by The Girl with All the Gifts author/screenwriter Mike Carey.
Newcomer Diego Yapur serves as the artist, with coloring by D.C. Alonso and lettering by AndWorld Design. Eisner Award nominee Tim Bradstreet (The Punisher, Hellblazer) designed the cover art.
The Lycan #1 takes a bite out of life on February 18 via Amazon’s Comixology Originals in conjunction with Jane’s Renegade Entertainment. Additional issues will publish on April 1, May 13, June 24, August 5, and September 16.
Set in 1777, the story sees a hardened band of international big game hunters shipwrecked off a small British island. In exchange for new supplies and the repairing of their ship, Lord Ludgate tasks the men with finding the Berserking Beasts that have been eating his subjects and destroy them.
“This comic has been years in the making,” says Jane. “It wasn’t until Mike Carey turned in his blood curdling, masterfully executed script that we knew we had something different. Something special.”
As an actor, Jane’s genre credits include Deep Blue Sea, The Mist, Dreamcatcher, 1922, Before I Wake, The Crow: City of Angels, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
