Yes, Hodder has played Jason, Freddy and Leatherface!
I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’m a huge fan of Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3. I recently wrote about the incredibly cool original teaser trailer for the underrated sequel, and I was thrilled to be the one to exclusively debut NECA’s upcoming action figure based on the 1990 film’s iteration of the iconic slasher. Needless to say, it’s near and dear to my heart.
One of the cool things about the franchise’s third installment, as hardcore horror fans know, is that Kane Hodder was the film’s stunt coordinator, which led to him actually playing the role of Leatherface for several scenes; R.A. Mihailoff is credited as Leatherface in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3, but from what we gather, Hodder did many of the stunts and action scenes.
It’s even rumored that Hodder played Leatherface for the aforementioned trailer, which I’ve never been able to confirm. But it seems likely, as Mihailoff hadn’t yet been cast at the time.
I bring all of this up today because the folks over on Facebook page ’80s and ’90s Horror just managed to snag a couple behind the scenes shots from director Jeff Burr that show Kane Hodder on set in the Leatherface costume; he’s unmasked in one photo and masked in the other.
Even as a huge fan of the film, I had NEVER before seen any photos of Hodder in costume, so this was a pretty cool little treat that I wanted to share. Check out the awesome shots below!
